About IJM Construction
Your Build Has Our Name
Stamped On It Forever.
Proudly locally owned and operating since 2014 our IJM Construction team specialises in new home builds, renovations and light-commercial construction across Hawke's Bay. From the first conversation to the final handover, our team is committed to delivering excellence.
IJM Construction started with a young Israel McNabb, a few tools, plenty of enthusiasm, and a genuine love for building. Long before IJM was taking on major renovations, new homes and commercial projects across Hawke’s Bay, Israel was spending his school lunch breaks working with Pine, Oak and Rimu before learning the trade alongside experienced local builders.
More than 20 years later, he’s built IJM into a name locals trust with significant projects across Hawke's Bay, much of that growth coming through repeat clients, referrals and people returning years later when there’s another job to do.
From restoring old homes to building new ones from the ground up and delivering commercial projects for local businesses, IJM has grown without losing the hands-on approach it started with.
Israel is still closely involved in every project, bringing more than 20 years of experience to the decisions that matter most. That means clients aren’t just getting a building company, but they’re getting the judgement, problem-solving and oversight of someone who has spent his career learning what works, what doesn’t, and where the details can make or break a build.
It’s a level of involvement that gives clients confidence from the first conversation through to handover, knowing the person whose name is on the business is also personally invested in the outcome.
These days he’s also a husband and dad, surrounded by a team he’s incredibly proud of, but at heart, he’s still a builder who loves the craft, values his reputation, and wants every IJM project to be something both he and the client are proud to put their name to.

Meet The Team Behind IJM Construction
We’re a small, experienced local team who take a lot of pride in the work we put our name to.
From Israel through to the guys on site, you’re dealing with people who know the job, communicate properly, care about getting the details right, and above all else, have 10+ years of proof to show for it. No huge layers of management, no disappearing act once your build starts, just a hands-on team who stay close to the project from start to finish.
Melissa
Melissa brings more than 21 years of management experience across both small and large businesses, along with a background in natural therapies and life coaching. As Operations & HR Manager, she brings structure, clarity and a genuinely caring approach to both clients and the team. Outside work, she enjoys tackling renovation projects with her partner and putting her creative side to good use.
Mike
Mike is a qualified builder who takes real pride in the work he puts his hands to. Patient, reliable and detail-focused, he brings a steady approach to every job. Outside work, he enjoys time with his family, the outdoors, hunting for rare crystals and shaping rare stones and pounamu into jewellery by hand.
David
Every team needs someone who quietly gets things done, and that’s David. A father of four, he brings a calm, no-fuss approach to site and plenty of energy to match. He cares about doing things properly, looks out for the people around him, and is the kind of person you can always rely on.
Ethan
He may be the youngest on the team, but he brings a mature and thoughtful approach to his work. After teaching himself coding and completing a computer science degree, he’s brought that analytical mindset into construction. Friendly, respectful and always keen to learn, he’s constantly looking for ways to improve and support the team.
